Learning and Growing in School Gardens
Through our partnership with the New Britain Public Schools, we’ve built garden beds at all 12 schools in the district. Students, teachers, and ROOTS staff utilize the school gardens as outdoor classrooms that provide a multi-disciplinary experience for children of all ages to explore, learn, and play. They create an enriching space for schools to provide STEAM activities while increasing social emotional learning by connecting children with nature and the food they eat.
Produce grown in the school gardens is utilized in classroom cooking lessons, given to the New Britain Public Schools food service, donated to local food pantries, and sold on our Mobile Market.
